Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the load capacity as well as aim at utilizing the effect of dynamic pressure efficiently by providing the bearing with supply holes of compressed air and the journal face or the bearing surface including this supply hole with thin grooves.
CONSTITUTION: In a gas bearing, in which the rotary shaft is supported by feeding compressed gas from the compressed gas supplying source 16 to the gap in the bearing, several scattered supply holes 14 with a minute diameter are provided in the cylindrical inner surface at the positions with a distance of approx. 3W25% of the bearing's width from both ends of the bearing 12 in such an arrangement as communucating with the compressed air supplying source 16. The journal 11 surfaces facing the rows of supply holes 14 or the bearing surfaces including respective rows of supply holes 14 provided in both inner surfaces, are provided with thin grooves 13 having a depth corresponding to approx. 1W10 times of the radial clearance in the bearing. To secure the bearing with the max. bearing capacity, the diameter of supply holes shall be as small as possible (for example no more than 0.1mm), and by such a way the dynamic pressure effect can be utilized by reaction force due to eccentricity of the journal.
