Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the corrosion resistance of the can inner surface, by specifying the grain size of steel, cleanness, and steel sheet surface roughness, in a steel sheet to be used as food can or beverage can by processing after painting.
CONSTITUTION: The grain size of steel should be preferably as dense as possible, and according to the JIS G 552 method, the grain size number should be N≥10. If N is below 10, local elongation or crack on the surface paint film of the elongated part is likely to occur when processing. The cleanness d of the steel should be, according to the same JIS requirements, d≤0.10%. When nonmetallic inclusions which lower the cleanness exist on the steel surface, pores may be caused on the processed film in the case of surface treated steel such as tin plate and TFS, and, further, defects of paint film may occur, possibly exposing the metal before or after processing. The steel sheet surface roughness Ra is related with said N, and should be Ra (μm)≤N/60. Unless all these three conditions are sufficed, the steel sheet should not be preferable to the eluted iron volume, that is, corrosion resistance.
