Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the high temperature cracking that occurs at the tack welding and reduce the number of repair steps by letting the heating TIG welding electrode disposed with magnets on both sides follow up a preceding arc welding electrode.
CONSTITUTION: In tack welding of the materials to be welded such as carbon steel and low alloy steel, a TIG welding electrode 8 for heating at 1×103W20×103 pulses/sec. is followed up to a preceding arc welding electrode 7 for welding at welding speed 1m/min. or more and welding current 500 A or more to add TIG arc welding heat immediate before the bead parts solidify when welding by a torch 6 is finished. Further, electromagnets are provided with the TIG arc welding electrode 8 in-between in proximity thereto to give a magnetic field rectangular to the both of the welding direction and TIG arc 9, whereby the directivity of the arc is properly controlled. By this method, the high temperature cracking in the high speed tack welding of large heat input is perfectly prevented.
