Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an α-olefin polymer having remarkably improved crystallinity and bulk density, by using a catalyst comprising an aluminum compound, an electron donor, and a composition provided by pulverizing a magnesium compound together with an organic acid ester, an unsaturated monomer, etc., and treating the mixture with titanium tetrachloride.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin (e.g. propylene, etc.) is polymerized to give the desired polymer by using a polymerization catalyst comprising (A) a composition provided by pulverizing (a) a magnesium halide together with (b) an organic acid ester (e.g. ethyl bensoate, etc.), (c) an aromatic hydrocarbon having an unsaturated substituent (e.g. α-methylstyrene, etc.) and (d) a liquid propylene oligomer, and thermally treating the mixture with (e) titanium tetrachloride, (B) an organoaluminum compound (e.g. triisobutylaluminum, etc.) and (C) an electron-donative compound, e.g. an organic acid ester or its complex with an aluminum halide, etc.
