Abstract

PURPOSE:To regenerate a waste hydrochloric acid soln. contg. a dissolved iron component and recover hydrochloric acid comparable to fresh acid by blowing O2 into the soln., separating free hydrochloric acid, and hydrolyzing the mother liquor to remove the dissolved iron component as insoluble iron oxide. CONSTITUTION:A waste hydrochloric acid soln. contg. a dissolved iron component is adjusted so as to make the concn. of free hydrochloric acid >= about 1.3mol/ mol of the component. The adjusted soln. is fed to oxidation tube 3, where Fe<2+> is oxidized to Fe<3+> by blowing O2 from pipe 5 while keeping tube 3 at high temp. and pressure such as about 70-130 deg.C and about 2-12atm. This liq. reaction product is flashed into flash drum 11 to ordinary temp. to separate free hydrochloric acid, which is then stored in storage tank 16. The mother liquor is fed to 20 and heated to 130-250 deg.C in the presence of seed crystals to thermally decompose FeCl3. A mixed flow of the resulting iron oxide slurry and HCl gas is condensed by cooling and fed to filter 31 to separate the iron oxide. Thus, clear regenerated hydrochloric acid is obtd.
