Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover acetic acid efficiently, by application of a combination method of extraction process of an acetic acid-containing aqueous solution using tertiary amine and trimethylcyclohexanone as an extractant and dewatering and recovery process by distillation.
CONSTITUTION: In acetic acid recovery by extracting an acetic acid-containing aqueous solution with an organic extractant having a higher boiling point than that of acetic acid, followed by distilling the extracted solution, a tertiary amine (preferably tri-n-octylamine, trihexylamine, etc.) and an oxygen-containing organic solvent preferably diisolbutylcarbinol, isophorone, 3,3,5-trimethyl-cyclohexanone, etc.) are used together as an extractant, a mixer-settler type counter current multistage extractor, etc. is used in extraction to give the extracted solution, which is dewatered by distillation, and the mixture after dewatering is further distilled (the temperature of the bottom of the distillation column is 120W170°C) to recover acetic acid. The organic extractant separated from acetic acid is reused as reflux liquid of the distillation column.
