Abstract
PURPOSE: The catalytic reaction between methyl t-butyl ether, oxygen and ammonia is effected in the presence of a specific oxidation catalyst such as molybdenum to produce both of methacrylonitrile and hydrocyanic acid which are used as starting materials for a variety of organic chemicals and high polymer products with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: Both of methacrylonitrile and hydrocyanic acid are obtained in high yield by vapor-phase catalytic reaction between methl t-butyl ether, oxygen, and ammonia in the presence of an oxidation catalyst containing Mo, Bi and Sb. The catalyst is, e. g., a compound of the empirical formula: Mo12BiaSbbNicPd AeOf (A is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Rb and Cs, and a, b, c, d, e and f represent molar ratios where, when Mo is 12, a is 3W15, b is 2W15, c is 0W10, d is 0W5, e is 0W5 and f is the number corresponding to oxidation numbers.)
EFFECT: The yield of hydeocyanic acid in a brisk demand remarkably increases.
