Abstract
PURPOSE: A drug for osteoporosis having improved bone-absorption inhibiting effects, comprising 24R-hydroxycholecalciferol.
CONSTITUTION: A drug for osteroporosis comprising 24R-hydroxychlolecalciferol shown by the formula as an active ingredient. Osteoporosis is a disease caused essentially by the increase in bone-absorption action (calcium is eluted from the bone to the blood) and the reduction in calcium absorption competence in intestine, bringing about fracture readily. The compound shown by the formula suppresses the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) with bone absorption action for a long time, and has improved calcium absorption competence in intestine. It may be administered orally or parenterally. Its toxicity is extremely low.
