Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare high purity trimethylene norbornane useful as a sublimation carrier for an aromatic, economically, by hydrogenating dicyclopentadiene flowing through a fixed bed reactor under specific conditions while circulating trimethylene norbornane to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: High purity trimethylene norbornane having low saturation degree and useful as a sublimation carrier for aromatic, etc., is prepared in high efficiency, by hydrogenating dicyclopentadiene in a fixed bed flow reactor at 100W250°C under a gauge pressure of 5W50kg/cm2 and at a ratio [amount of catalyst (kg)/flow rate of dicyclopentadiene (kg/hr)] of ≥1.5, while circulating trimethylene norbornane to the reaction system. The reaction conditions can be controlled easily, and the operation is simple. It is preferable to carry out the hydrogenation reaction in two steps, since the reaction conditions can be made milder, the catalytic life can be elongated, and side reactions such as decomposition etc. can be suppressed.
