Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of coagulated fractions of a coating material in an electrostatic spray gun, by providing the spray gun with a needle valve for introducing a coating material and air therethrough, a passage for the coating material, which cosists of a dielectrics, a nozzle for the coating material, and an air cap having a corona electrode.
CONSTITUTION: An electrostatic spray gun for a liquid coating material is formed, which consists of a metallic needle valve 6 of a tubular construction for introducing a coating material and air therethrough, a passage for the coating material, which is composed of a dielectric, a nozzle 7 for the coating material, and an air cap 8 having a corona electrode 5 at an orifice 3 therein. When an electric charge is applied directly to a coating material in the passage 4, an electrostatic grain easily occurs. Therefore, an electric charge is applied to the coating material from the corona discharge electrode 5 provided at a front end portion of the air cap 8, and the coating material is atomized with an atomizing air current from an air ejection port 20b. When compressed air supplied through an air inlet 13 is ejected to close the needle valve 6, residual coating material in the passage 4 and nozzle 7 can be removed therefrom.
