Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the amorphous alloy which is excellent in strength, corrosion resistance, magnetic properties and the like by a method wherein an alloy containing metal such as Fe, Co, Ni, etc. as main constituent, nonmetals such as Si, C, B, etc. and specified metal is cooled at an ultrahigh cooling rate. CONSTITUTION:The alloy is represented by the composition formula MaSibCcBd Ae, where M is at least one of the Group VIII elements such as Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Os, Ir, Pt, etc.; A is at least one element selected from the Group Ib elements such as Cu, Ag, An, etc. or the Group IIb elements such as Zn, Cd, Hg, etc.; (a) is 70- 95; (b) is 0-10; (c), (d) and (e) are each 0.01-10 and a+b+c+d=100. The alloy of said composition is melted in Ar gas atmosphere and then rapidly cooled by jetting the molten alloy onto an iron roller rotating at 2,000rpm, thereby forming the amorphous alloy in the shape of a ribbon.
