Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect the flange portion of a ceramic member to be fixed to the engine block or the like against damage possibly caused by the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion, by fitting the flange portion of the ceramic member loosely in an annular groove formed in a member such as engine block to which the ceramic member is to be fixed, and supporting the ceramic member by the intermediary of resilient means.
CONSTITUTION: An annular flange 12 formed at the end of a ceramic scroll 11 used for a radial turbine is fitted in a stepped portion 14 having a substantially cylindrical form which is formed at the end portion of a metal engine block 13 in its outer peripheral surface. Here, the inner peripheral portion and one side face of the flange 12 are supported respectively by the intermediary of a plurality of plate springs 15 and coil springs 16, so that the difference in thermal expansion in the radial and axial directions can be compensated. For this purpose, the axial width of an annular groove 19 formed between the stepped portion 14 and flange portion 17 is made larger than the thickness of the flange 12, and thef outer diameter of the bottom surface 20 of the stepped portion 14 is made smaller than the inner diameter of the flange 12. Further, cooling-air ports 25, 26 are provided for cooling the coupling portion of the flange 12.
