Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize an overheating detector and to simplify handling and maintenance by a method wherein a pair of discharge electrodes are provided in a bleeding pipe of cooling gas, and the decrease of discharge current due to the increase of concentration of varnish corpuscles being contained in the cooling gas is utilized. CONSTITUTION:The discharge electrodes 7 are equipped on the way of the bleeding pipe 20 to take out a part of cooling gas and are connected to a high voltage source 30, and discharge current detecting electrodes 18 are provided confronting with the discharge electrodes 7 and are connected to a motor-driven indicator 4. The corpuscles produced by the thermal decomposition of insulating varnish caused in accordance with the temperature rise of the electric rotary machine are contained in the cooling gas P passing through the bleeding pipe 20. Because the discharge current decreases in accordance with the increase of concentration of corpuscle, so that the overheating of the electric rotary machine can be detected by observing the discharge current.
