Abstract

PURPOSE:To make electrolytic treatment work efficient in the production of electrolytic manganese dioxide by supplying the slurry in which the coarse particles in manganese oxide are settled and separated to an electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:Manganese oxide powder is supplied into a storage tank, in which a manganese sulfate soln. is stored. In this storage tank fine manganese oxide particles of about <=30mu suspend in the manganese sulfate soln. to form a slurry and the coarse particles settle in the bottom of the slurry storage tank. A prescribed amoung of this slurry is suitably taken out and is supplied into an electrolytic cell, where it is subjected to electrolysis. The electrolytic manganese dioxide deposited on an anode plate is stripped, and is neutralized and ground, whereby the product of electrolytic manganese dioxide is obtained. The coarse particles deposited in the storage tank are taken out and are ground, whereby they are reused as fine particles of <=40mu in about >=70%. Thereby, the slurray of the manganese oxide is uniformly suspended, and therefore electrolysis is accelerated and the step of taking out the precipitate is eliminated.
