Abstract
PURPOSE:To simultaneously regenerate a used silver halide photographic developer and a used silver halide photographic bleaching bath with high efficiency by pouring the developer into the cathode side of an electrolytic cell partitioned by a monovalent anion exchange membrane and the bath into the anode side followed by electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:Cathode chamber 4 of electrolytic cell 1 in which rodlike or platelike graphite cathode 2 and rodlike or platelike graphite anode 3 are separated by one or more monovalent anion exchange membranes 6 is filled with a used silver halide photographic developer, and anode chamber 5 with a used silver halide photographic bleaching bath. By supplying an electric current, hydrogen is generated on cathode 2 to reduce oxides such as an oxidized developing agent contained in the developer by the reducing power, and a reduced oxidizing agent in the bath is oxidized on anode 3. Excess bromine ions present in large quantities in chamber 4 are shifted to chamber 5. The used developer and the sude bath are regenerated simultaneously through the above-mentioned reaction processes.
