Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate defects and improve product yields by filling fillers in the defect parts of a large-size cast material, to the extent that the cavities of the defect parts are annihilated by a hot hydrostatic pressing (HIP) method, then subjecting said part to HIP treatment. CONSTITUTION:Parts of large-size casting defects 3, 4 of a cast material 1 are cut to form holes 7, 7' of suitable sizes. Next, fillers 5, 5' which consists of the same material as that of the material 1 and are molded in approximate conformity with the shapes of the holes 7, 7' are filled in these holes 7, 7' and the circumferential edge parts thereof are welded 6, 6' to seal the holes 7, 7'. Thence, HIP treatment is applied according to conventional method, whereby the material 1 and the fillers 5, 5' are diffusion-bonded and compactly formed into one piece. It is equally well to properly combine materials of various kinds and match them to the shapes of the holes or use metal powder as the fillers.
