Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent deformation of a platen and change in the paper feed by separating a thermal head from a platen while out of printing while a carriage is turned with a solenoid through an elastic member when printing. CONSTITUTION:While out of printing, with no energization of a solenoid 7, a lever 8 is pulled with a spring 9 to turn a carriage clockwise thereby separating a thermal head 6 away from a platen. When the solenoid 7 is energized with a printing start command, the lever is attracted to turn the carriage 5 counterclockwise through a plate spring 10. The functioning of the plate spring as a torque limitter ensures a stable compression force. In stand-by state, this prevents the thermal head from the platen made of a material of less hardness thereby eliminating deformation of the platen.
