Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable stable, high quality welding without requiring operational skill and experience of high degree by detecting preceding bead layer and welding position and inputting them to a control unit to operate and select an optimum execution condition.
CONSTITUTION: On receiving instruction to detect the bead width from the console panel 126, a welding head 120 moves to the direction opposite to that at the time of welding. When a welding position detector at a specified position, it stops temporarily and detects the bead width of preceding layer. The bead width is obtained by converting voltage obtained from the volume resistance of a monitoring device 125 to a digital signal through an A/D converter and operating the difference in the arithmetic circuit. The value of the bead width is put in CPU together with the welding position detection signal. Then, operation and selection of execution condition necessary for succeeding layer are made and the result is stored in memory. Then, on receiving instruction to start welding from the console panel 126, the welding head 120 starts moving. CPU receives a signal from the welding position detector, takes out corresponding execution condition from memory and makes output from the output circuit.
