Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect the tuyere securely and enhance the durability of the tuyere by a method wherein a protecting material is blown in together with a carrier gas and is coagulated at the periphery of the tuyere, in the bottom-blown refining furnace. CONSTITUTION:The tuyere 13 of double-pipe structure consisting of an outer pipe 11 and an inner pipe 12 is provided at the bottom part of a vessel of the bottom- blown refining furnace. Oxygen gas for refining is blown in through the inner pipe 12, while the particulate protecting material 14 is blown in through the outer pipe 11 by using the carrier gas and is coagulated to form a protecting member 14' at the periphery of the tuyere. Alternatively, the tuyere is comprised of a single pipe and the protecting material is injected into the flow of oxygen gas. The protecting member 14' formed by said method is rigid and protects the tuyere securely. Incidentally, since the protecting member 14' is not formed on the inner side of the tuyere, the effective inside diameter of the tuyere is prevented from being changed. Accordingly, a reduction in the activity rate of the refining furnace due to replacement of the tuyere is avoided and the productivity is enhanced.
