Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the expansion of the grid of a lead acid battery, prevent any defective contact between the grid and the active material, and increase the life of the battery by firmly fixing parts of the grid by means of a substance which has acid resistance as well as oxidation resistance and is molten by heat. CONSTITUTION:An acid-proof and oxidation resistant substance which is molten by heat, for example, a hot melt resin consisting of 50% of atactic polypropylene, 25% of polyethylene, 10% of polypropylene and 15% of polyethylene wax is heated up to 150 deg.C. The heated resin is injected from a nozzle of 2mm. aperture at a pressure of 5kg/cm<2>, and is applied to an expanded grid made of a lead-calcium system alloy in such a manner that three vertical resin layers A are formed on the grid. Here, each of these resin layers A should have a given width, a given dimension, and a thickness smaller than that of the grid.
