Abstract

PURPOSE:To considerably improve the stability of photoconductive powder to humidity by irradiating the powder with microwaves in the presence of water to remove ions remaining on the powder surface. CONSTITUTION:Water is allowed to be adsorbed on photoconductive powder such as cadmium sulfide powder, or the powder is slurried with water. The water holding powder or the aqueous slurry is irradiated with microwaves having wavelength such as about 2.5GHz corresponding to that for the molecular vibration of water to rapidly heat and boil the water, and by the resulting expansion of the water in volume ions remaining on the particle surfaces are removed. The treated powder is then washed optionally together with an ion exchange resin, and it is dried with warm air.
