Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the rate of erroneous recognition for a pattern recognizer that recognizes a pattern through a comparison with the standard pattern, by performing a comparison with the standard pattern in the order of higher frequency of emergence. CONSTITUTION:The hand-written characters on the slip 1 are read by the scanning circuit 2, and the features of characters are extracted by the feature extracting circuit 4 and via the normalizing circuit 3 to be stored in the input feature memory 5. An access is given by the address counter 9 to the priority memory 8 that reads first the standard pattern relating to the character data of a high frequency of emergence out of the disctionary memory 6. The standard pattern is read out of the memory 6 based on the address information extracted out of the memory 8 and then compared with the contents of memory 5 through a deciding circuit. Then the counter is counted up in case no coincidence is obtained through the above comparison. Thus the output signal S1 is produced when a coincidence is obtained. As a result, the probability is reduced for an erroneous recognition to have a mistaken coincidence with other patterns in the course of process in comparison with the case in which the standard pattern is read in a fixed order and regardless of the frequency of emergence.
