Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce title high-stereoregularity polymer in high catalyst efficiencies, by using as a catalyst component a reaction product prepared by reacting a titanium (IV) halide compound with a copulverization product of MgCl2 and an aromatic carboxylic acid ester in a high-dielectric constant chlorinated hydrocarbon.
CONSTITUTION: A titanium (IV) halide compound is reacted with a copulverization product of magensium chloride and an aromatic carboxylic acid by using at least one chlorinated hydrocarbon, dielectric constant at 20°C≥8.0 as a solvent or a dispersing medium. After the reaction, the solid product is separated from the liquid phase, and washed with a hydrocarbon solvent. The solid catalyst component thus produced is combined with an organoaluminum compound to form an olefin polymerization catalyst, which is then used to polymerize an α-olefin. Because of a high Ti content and an extremely high polymerization activity per unit Ti, it is possible to simplify or eliminate a step of removing catalyst residues in the high- stereoregularity polymer produced.
