Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove fine particles of metallic Al from the titled medium oil while retaining the properties of the oil and thereby to purify the oil by a method wherein the oil contaminated with the fine particles of metallic Al is contacted at a predetermined feed rate to ferromagnetic fibrous wires which are placed in the magnetic field of an air-core coil in such a manner that the direction of the fibers is orthogonal to that of the field. CONSTITUTION:The medium oil contaminated with the fine particles of metallic Al is purified by a high-magnetic separator in the following manner. The oil is fed to the magnetic separator in which the ferromagnetic fibrous wires (steel wool) having a diameter of not larger than 20mu are placed in the magnetic field of the air- core coil in such a manner that the direction of the fibers is orthogonal to that of the field. In this case, it is necessary to set the intensity of the field to be not less than 1000 Oe and the feed rate of the oil in a separating chamber to be not higher than 20m/hr. Accordingly, the fine particles of metallic Al in the contaminated oil can be removed at a high removing rate, for instance, 93%.
