Abstract

PURPOSE: To allow the outer surface of an outer surface wall to be retained flat on the plane under filling a internal pressure without use of a rigid core material or the like by reinforcing the outer surface wall with a outer rubber layer through a reinforcing layer along the inner surface of a shell body dividing an internal hollow.
CONSTITUTION: An air bag body 1 secured on a quay is made of an elastic material and a rigid shell reinforcing layer 3a and an end reinforcing layer 3b are buried along the inner surface of the shell 1. An outer rubber layer 12 is formed on the end wall 2 in such a manner as to increase outward gradually as to the thickness in a radial direction. When an internal hollow C divided by the shell 1 and the outer surface wall 2 is filled with an air of a specified internal pressure from a ventilation path 9, the outer rubber layer 12 gets thicker toward the periphery of the wall 2 causing a strong circumferential compression stress, which checks the deformation of the air body. This fender provides a flat impact receiving surface, resulting in a larger area even initially in the distortion, ensuring a greater absorption of energy caused by berthing of a ship.
