Abstract
PURPOSE: To safely store hydrogen at high density by using an alloy of Ti, Al and Cr, Mn, Fe or misch metal represented by a specified general formula.
CONSTITUTION: This hydrogen storing material is an alloy represented by general formula Ti3Al1-XAX or Ti3-XAXAl, wherein A is one or more among Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and misch metal based on La and Se, and 0.005≤x≤0.3. For example, the material is manufactured by mixing powdered Ti, powdered Al and misch metal after weighing, press-molding the mixture with a hydraulic type compression molding machine, and melting the molding with a plasma arc melting furnace in an Ar atmosphere. Hydrogenation is accomplished by granulating said alloy, tightly sealing the granules in a reactor, and introducing gaseous hydrogen after evacuating the reactor.
