Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a metallic iron-based magnetic powder which has excellent denseness and magnetic characteristics as well as high breaking resistance during heat treatment by adding an alkaline earth metal hydroxide to ferrous hydroxide as a raw material.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing FeSO4 and one of alkaline earth metal compounds, e.g., MgSO4, Ca(NO3)2, etc., is added with NaOH aqueous solution while stirring to form a suspension containing the coprecipitate of Fe(OH)2 and Mg(OH)2 or Ca(OH)2 and having pH11 or more. The suspension is then heated and an oxygen-containing gas, e.g., air, etc., is blown into the suspension to separate the needlelike particles of α-iron oxyhydroxide (α-FeOOH). The particles are filtered, washed with water, dried, and then dispersed into an Na4SiO4 aqueous solution. And, CO2 gas is blown into the suspension to form α-FeOOH particles whose surface is covered with deposited silicic acid sol. Then, the particles are filtered, washed with water, dried, and then reduced by hydrogen in an electric oven to manufacture magnetic metallic iron particles having adjustable axis ratio and grain size.
