Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain sufficient gate capacity by reducing a loss by obtaining a gate electric power source from a main-circuit side voltage and main-circuit side current.
CONSTITUTION: As an example of a thyristor converter, the figure shows an AC control switch consisting of four series-connected couples of thyristors connected reversely in parallel. A voltage across the thyristor arm of said thyristor converter is converted into electric current through capacitor 9 and resistance 10 and the electric current is applied to constant-voltage circuit 11. Further, electric current flowing through the thyristor arm is detected by current transformer 12, the output of which is applied to another constant-voltage circuit 13. Then, the constant-voltage circuits 11 and 13 are used as a gate electric power source, which is supplied to gate amplifier 6. Thus, since gate electric current is obtained from the main-circuit side voltage and main-circuit side current respectively, the capacitor 9 and resistance 10 may use short-time rated capacity elements and the current transformer 12 can be used for another purpose.
