Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable water to be dissociated safely with a simple apparatus by inducing discharge in the air using microwaves.
CONSTITUTION: Discharge is induced in the air using microwaves, and one kind of catalyst such as a perforated metallic plate is placed around a generated plasma positive column. The catalyst temp. is raised to a high temp. such as 2,500°C, and gases are fed to the periphery of the catalyst. Thus, water can easily be dissociated into hydrogen and oxygen. The resulted oxygen is paramagnetic and the resulted hydrogen is not magnetic, so they can be collected safely and separately.
