Abstract
PURPOSE: Glacial acetic acid is irradiated with light to improve the quality as a starting material for acetate fiber or film, especially from the view point of sulfuric acid coloring test, without large-scale change in the facility and adverse effects on waste water disposal.
CONSTITUTION: The quaility of acetic acid is improved by irradiating with ultraviolet rays of 100W600mμ or light containing the ultraviolet rays such as sun light. The actic acid to be treated is suitably the product of more than 99.0% purity, which is obtained industrially by purification after the acetic acid synthesis, that is, removing the light and heavy fractions from the crude product.
