Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a piston ring of excellent dimensional accuracy at low cost by making the shape of a sizing die a true circuler form in manufacturing a sintered alloy piston ring.
CONSTITUTION: An atomized iron powder is mixed with a lubricant powder, e.g., zinc stearate, natural praphite, etc., and then molded by compression in a molding die to form a pressed powder for piston ring, where the matching mouth of piston ring is made to have a dimension corresponding to 130W200% of a free matching mouth, and also the width dimension is set up by allowing for a 1W20% shrinkage allowance encountered in the subsequent process. Then, the aperture of matching mouth of the pressed powder is cut off the removal to form a sintered alloy metal piston ring element material with a matching mouth. The element material is put in the sizing die, compressed as much as 1W20% of the width dimension for up and down sides, and then taken out of the die. In this case, the inside diameter of the sizing die is set up to DWD+L/π (D is the nominal diameter of piston ring and L is a free matching mouth aperture).
