Abstract
PURPOSE:To simply prevent overcurrent from reaching a critical level by substituting an inert gas for both/either of reaction gases in a fuel-gas chamber and an oxidizing-agent-gas chamber at the point when a DC overcurrent is detected. CONSTITUTION:If a DC current exceeds the detection level of an overcurrent detector 19, the detector 19 gives cross valves 14 a signal commanding a change-over. Then O2 gas as an oxidizing agent is stopped being supplied, and N2 gas which is an inert gas is sent into an oxidizing-agent-gas chamber in a fuel battery 1. Here, in order to curtail the amount of the inert gas, a substitution valve 17 which is installed in an outlet pipe 16 desirably should by throttled or closed according to the output signal of the detector 19; thus a bomb 15 of a smaller capacity can be used. Consequently, O2 gas in the oxidizing-agent-gas chamber in the fuel battery 1 is replaced with N2 gas, and thereby DC overcurrent can be prevented from reaching a critical level by a simple means. Furthermore, the N2-gas bomb can be omitted by using the N2 in the air.
