Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title composition contg. an acrylic copolymer having the structural unit of a triorganotin salt of an α,β-unsaturated dibasic acid, and capable of preventing fouling due to animals and plants in the sea for a long period of time.
CONSTITUTION: By incorporating a triorganotin salt of an α,β-unsaturated dibasic acid which is effective as an antifouling agent into an acrylic copolymer, one-liquid type coating material having good storage stability can be provided. When this resin composition is hydrolyzed by alkaine material in the seawater, the triorganotin salt (antifouling agent) and the water-soluble acrylic copolymer (water-soluble binder) are separated. This allows antifouling agent to be dissolved at a constant concentration for a long period of time whether the coated object is moving or not. After the antifouling agent is dissolved out, the copolymer also dissolves in the seawater, so no sponge condition is formed. As α,β-unsaturated dibasic acid, itaconic acid is preferably used.
