Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain efficiently and economically stable sodium hypochlorite pentahydrate contg. little NaCl by diluting an NaOCl soln. passed through an NaCl crystallizing process, cooling the diluted soln. to a specified temp. range, and separating crystallized grains.
CONSTITUTION: NaOCl soln. A3 obtd. by a known method by intoducing chlorine into an NaOH soln. in chlorination tank 1 and separating by-produced NaCl with solid-liq. separator 5 is diluted with water in adjusting vessel 6 to lower the concn. of residual NaCl to the unsaturation region as well as dissolve the NaCl. Adjusted soln. A4 is then cooled with cooler 8 to a temp. below the saturation temp. of dissolved NaCl and above that of dissolved NaCl and fed to crystallizer 9, where high purity NaOCl.5H2O is crystallized with high purity seed crystals. The NaOCl. 5H2O is separated with separator 10. Since no NaCl seed crystal is present, NaCl is not crystallized practically, giving the titled hydrate of high purity.
