Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a hard alloy excellent in wear resistance, by sintering a monocarbide which is a solid solution containing at least one of Mo and W and a carbide or/and carbide-nitride which is a B1-type solid solution containing Ti, together with a metal such as Cr, Mo or W.
CONSTITUTION: 1W40wt% of a monocarbide which is a solid solution containing at least one of Mo and W, 50wt% or more of a carbide and or/and carbide-nitride which is a B1-type solid solution containing Ti and 3W49wt% of a metal which is at least one of Cr, Mo, W, Fe, Ni and Co are sintered together to produce an alloy. In this alloy, (MoW)C with a small grain size of 2μ or less is located among the grains of the carbide or carbide-nitride being the B1-type solid solution containing Ti and is uniformly dispersed. For this reason, the fall in the strength of the alloy is small. Since the quantity of the monocarbide containing Mo and W is relatively small, the strength of the alloy is kept high. The alloy is a very excellent hard alloy for cutting. If a layer of TiC, TiN, Al2O3 or the like which is ordinarily used for a coated tool is coated on the surface of the alloy as a main material, a good coated tool is available.
