Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively cool an exhaust system for protecting equipment like a bearing in the periphery of the exhaust system, by providing about the periphery of a rotary valve on the exhausting side a passage, which can be communicated with atmosphere with the aid of a one-way valve opened or closed in respect of a nega- tive pressure of pulsated exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: In a 4-cycle internal combustion engine, a rotary valve 6 is housed in a circular space 5a of a rotor housing 5 which serves both as a cylinder head, and turned synchronously with the revolution of an engine by means of a chain 14. An opening 9 facing a combustion chamber C can be communicated with an intake port 7 and a suction port not illustrated in the drawing, which are provided in the valve 6. When a exhaust pulsated is at a negative pressure, the pressure is applied to a one-way valve 22 from a clearance F via a path D around the periphery of an exhaust side circumferential wall 6d of the valve 6, a notch 19c, paths 5f, 5e. Atmosphere is sucked through the valve 22 to cool the circumferential wall 6d, thereby protecting an exhaust side bearing 16-2 or others against an intense heat.
