Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the silencing effect by providing a resonance chamber with the side branch effect in the transverse direction of a tail pipe used for communicating one section inside the chamber with atmosphere, along a unit which includes a resonance chamber and the tail pipe.
CONSTITUTION: This silencer 3 includes a silencer body 6, a resonace chamber 9 formed by dividing the inner space of the body with partitions 7, 8, and a primary and secondary expansion chambers 9a, 9b. An exhaust pipe 2 is settled with its side aperture 10 and exhaust opening 11 opening to the resonance chamber 9 and the primary expansion chamber 9a, respectively. A tail pipe 12 is carried through the resonance chamber 9 and the primary expansion chamber 9a, with one end inside the silencer opening to a secondary expansion chamber 9b. The tail pipe 12 is divieded in the middle into a resonance chamber 14 and an exhaust passage 15 by a partition 13 having an opening 16. An exhaust current from the exhaust pipe 2 is carried outside through the primary expansion chamber 9a, a passage not illustrated in the drawing, the secondary expansion chamber 9b and the tail pipe 12.
