Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate design of a series of multicylinder compressors by arranging three cylinders in a T-shape as viewed from either end of its stator so that the components are made interchangeable with those of a 2- or 4-cylinder version in its series.
CONSTITUTION: Three cylinders 33a, 33b and 33c are arranged in a T-shape on the notches 32a, 32b and 32c on a stator 31. The relative locations between the cylinders on its stator 31 are such that the cylinders 33a and 33b are arranged opposite each other whereas the cylinder 33 is at a right angle to a line drown through the cylinders 33a and 33b. Thus, design of a 4-cylinder compressor is possible by merely adding one cylinder at a location opposite the cylinder 33c. This facilitates design of a series of multicylinder compressors with a maximum number of parts made interchangeable with each other.
