Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a MoO3 briquette being used in adding Mo to steel in a good adding yield by using an organic binder to bind a mixture consisting of powdered MoO3 and a reducing agent of Fe-Si particles.
CONSTITUTION: MoO3 powder and a reducing agent of Fe-Si less than 2mm in size are mixed to form Si/Mo ratio between 0.45 and 0.65. The mixture is mixed with an organic binder such as waste pulp liquid or molasses, is formed into brickette of a specified form, and then dried. The briquette is added to molten steel so that MoO3 is reduced to MoO by Fe-Si and alloyed into molten steel. MoO3 is very easy to reduce and therefore is easily reduced by Fe-Si in a short period time. Said procedure prevents loss in the form of MoO3 having a high vapor pressure so as to effect a high yield alloying in steel.
