Abstract
PURPOSE:To almost eliminate the large size camber usually generated at the end of the cast billet, when the high temperature cast billet is to be split by the roller provided with the ring protuberance, by first forming the rolled groove by above stated roll, and next, by splitting the billet at its middle zone before finishing the splitting work at the forefront and tail ends. CONSTITUTION:At forming the splitting groove in the high temperature cast billet 4 by the roll 2 provided with the ring protuberance 1 at its drum portion, before splitting the billet 4, the rolled groove 5 of specified depth is carved in the cast billet 4 over its whole length; next, the middle zone with the exception of about 1m at each of forefront and tail ends is split 6 so as to once stop the splitting work leaving about 1m tail end unsplit. Then, both ends are split in a way of splitting the billet 4 from the already split middle zone toward the forefront end as shwon by the arrow mark (a). The splitting in the direction (b) is similarly worked. According to this method, the large camber toward the right and the left at the ends of the cast billet 4, being generated by the conventional splitting method, is almost eliminated.
