Abstract
PURPOSE: To automatically control the heat exchange according to the temperature difference between a temperature at a heating gas path and a temperature at a portion to be heated, by connecting the heating gas path and the portion to be heated through heat transfer means such as thermosyphons.
CONSTITUTION: The heating gas path as an engine exhaust gas path 10 is connected to an alcohol modification apparatus 20 as the portion to be heated through thermosyphons 30, and a modification catalyst 23 is filled in the modification apparatus 20. The alcohol gas can be modified when the catalyst 23 is at temperature of at least 300°C. When the exhaust gas having temperature of at least 300°C has been introduced through an inlet 11 to the path 10, the heat of the exhaust gas will heat a lower portion of each container 31 of the thermosyphons 30 to evaporate working liquid or mercury 32, and the heat of the mercury 32 will heat the catalyst 23 to modify the alcohol. When the heat of the mercury 32 is dissipated, it will be condensed and descends within the containers 31 to work repeatedly. The amount of the working liquid or mercury 32 is predetermined such that the whole amount will be evaporated at the upper limit temperature above which temperature the catalyst 23 cannot work, therefore overheating of the catalyst will be prevented, and the mercury acts as the thermosyphon.
