Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a cyanide or a cyanide compound innoxious by a method wherein a solid waste material containing a cyanide or a cyanide compound is molten and air and/or oxygen is blown into the molten waste material to decompose said cyanide and cyanide compound by oxidation.
CONSTITUTION: In treating a cyanide or a cyanide compound in a solid waste material based on an alkali salt used in the heat treatment, said solid waste material is heated to 500°C or more to be comverted to a molten condition air and/or oxygen is blown thereinto. Then, said cyanide and cyanide compound is temporarily converted to a cyanate and, moremover, decomposed to a carbonate, carbon dioxide and nitrogen to be made innoxious. As described above, a cyanide and a cyanide compound are decomposed safely and economically.
