Abstract
PURPOSE:To define a picture by picking up an out-of-focus image and in-focus image by the same image pickup element in a picture reader and by obtaining an output picture on the basis of the difference between both the pictures. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal plate 5 between lens 2 and image pickup element 3 is supplied with an ON-OFF signal from synchronizing circuit 4 to supply image pickup element 3 with an out-of-focus image and in-focus image alternately. An in-focus signal for a single scan is stored in memory 9 by way of amplifier 7 and inputted to differential amplifier 10 together with the out-of-focus image obtd.
