Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the deterioration of a picture by limiting the substitute recording of excessive scanning lines by deciding whether a synchronizing signal is normal or not by checking the volume of transmitted information by a facsimile signal receiver. CONSTITUTION:Data for one scanning line transmitted through transmission line 1 are coded as one block and a fascimile signal with an added synchronizing signal that indicates punctuation of the block is received to check the transmission time of the block. When this transmission time is shorter than the shortest transmission time of one block previously fixed between the transmission side and reception side, a decision on that the detected synchronizing signal is not normal is made and the substitute scanning line of the corresponding block is not recorded. When the transmission time of two continuous blocks is shorter than the shortest transmission time and the sum of both the transmission times is longer than the shortest transmission time, data for one scanning line right before two corresponding blocks is recorded at the substitute scanning line. Thus, the recording of an excessive substitute scanning line can be limited, so that the deterioration of the quality of a recording picture can be prevented.
