Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the vibration attenuating characteristics for the purpose of decreasing noise and vibration by subjecting the steel contg. Cr or Al as an element to enhance vibration control characteristics to hot rolling and heat treatment under the specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The steel which contains 0.003-0.050% C and 0.10-0.45% Si as well as one or both of 1.0-20% Cr and 0.010-9.0% sol. Al and if necessary contains or does not contain one or both of 0.01-0.09% Ti and 0.05-1.50% Cu is heated to >=1,150 deg.C. Next, it is subjected to hot rolling of >=900 deg.C finishing temperature and >=10% thickness reduction rate, after which it is allowed to cool, whereby the hot rolled steel material having mechanical properties equivalent to those of general SS and superior vibration control characteristics is produced. Further, if necessary, it is held within a 600-900 deg.C temperature range until the value of T(20+logt) becomes >=21.0X10<-3> after it has been allowed to cool, whereby the vibration control characteristics are more improved. Here, T denotes absolute temperature and (t) the holding time.
