Abstract
PURPOSE: A toothpaste composition suitable for contents in a plastic container having a great restoring force, with a high antiseptic activity and safety for use, and comprising a polyhydric alcohol in a specific amount, based on the moisture of the composition, and a fluoride.
CONSTITUTION: A toothpaste composition comprising (a) a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. propylene glycol, in an amount of 6.3W100mol/l, preferably 6.3W15mol/l, based on the moisture of the composition and (b) 500W2,000pppm, calculated as fluorine ions, a fluoride in the well-known toothpaste composition. The toothpaste composition has improved antiseptic activity and high safety, inhibits the multiplication on general bacteria effecgively, and maintains the good quality of the composition, and minimizes the amounts of antiseptic agent and germicide even in a plastic container having a great restoring force. Preferably, the addition of carboxymethyl cellulose with a degree of etherification (degree of substitution) 0.75W0.90 further improves the antiseptic activity and retains the shape suitably.
