Abstract
PURPOSE:To make productivity high by deforming the sheath of an optical fiber to form projections, providing multiple holes of heating jigs enabling multiple mouthpieces mountable to the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The end of an optical fiber 11 having the part where part of the sheath of an optical fiber cable 1 made by coating the optical fiber cable 1 with the sheath 12 of a synthetic resin is provided. A mouthpiece 2 which comprises a metallic cylindrical member as a whole, of which the hollow part consists of a large diameter part 21 and a small diameter part 22, and which is so designed as to be inserted with the convex part of the optical fiber into the hole 23 provided to the large diameter part is mounted. In this way, the optical fiber end making build-up part when heated is produced, whereby the mouthpiece may be mounted to the end of the optical fiber without adding any mechanical pressure and deformation to the optical fiber.
