Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a metallic material which allows a moderate operational condition to compactly store hydrogen used as hydrogenation material, etc. by a method wherein a proper amount of Ni is added to Zr having a large capacity of hydrogen occlusion and both metals are alloyed. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consists of 5-40wt% of Ni and the remaining Zr essentially. The use of this Zr alloy having the restricted amount of Ni considerably lowers the temperature at which hydrogen is occluded. This also relaxes operational conditions such as hydrogen occlusion pressure, hydrogen discharge temperature, and hydrogen discharge pressure. The metal material allows compact storage of hydrogen, which will be consumed in large quantities in synthesis of ammonia, hydrochloric acid, and methanol, or as hydrogenation material to fats and oils, as well as various fuels.
