Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the yield of color picture tubes and lengthen the life of a super high-pressure mercury lamp, by providing a light transmittable plate in nonparallel to a sealed surface of a face plate perpendicular to a picture tube axis and rotating said plate about an axis which is parallel with said axis. CONSTITUTION:A light transmittable plate 8 is provided at an angle of alpha with respect to a sealed surface of a face plate 4 in such a manner that a light distribution from a light source 7 is corrected to be a desired distribution through a correcting filter 13 and its light path is corrected by a lens 14. Light 15 which has been passed through the thus-formed optical system travels further through an opening hole of a shadow gril 2 provided inside the face plate 4 and reaches the inner surface of plate 4. This light transmittable plate 8 is held at a predetermined angle of alpha by a turning ring 9 and turned by a transmission mechanism such as pulley 11 and drive belt 10, using a motor 12 as its power source. Accordingly, the distribution of light intensity becomes narrower and its tolerance in a mass-production increases, resulting in an improved yield and a prolonged life of a marcury lamp which is weak to vibrations.
