Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive and high-performance catalyst for the catalytic combustion of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons from the oxides of silver, cobalt, and manganese.
CONSTITUTION: As a ternary oxide catalyst on which carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons present in exhaust gas from automobile, heating stove, etc., are burned completely without smoke formation and easily at a comparatively low temperature, a catalyst consisting of oxides of silver, cobalt, and manganese is used. The catalyst is inexpensive and also available in great quantities and has a catalytic activity and a durability similar to or higher than the platinum-based metal catalysts. Thus, the catalyst is high in practical value.
